I am kinda bummed that I haven't had time to visit downtown N'Orleans. Instead, I am hunkering down some 30 miles to the east in a suburban town called Slidell. This town, it appears, suffered greatly from last year's Hurricane and is still on a slow path to recovery. At dinner this evening I learned that the Appleby's restaurant that provided dinner only recently started serving dessert again. The menu's were not their signature plastic coated and brightly colored ones, but a list of available menu items generated by an christian audio book. My server, a perky young girl in her late teens, was excited to inform me that the famous Appleby's Grill Rib Eye Steak special was back on the menu. I wanted to celebrate with her by ordering the returning hero, but I was put off by the it's 12 ounces mouth watering choice steak. I opted for the smaller strip steak instead.
